Rehearsal

Commencement rehearsal will be held Saturday, May 18, 2024 starting at 10:30 a.m. on the west side of campus, near the fountain. During rehearsal, both the Commencement and Candlelight Ceremony programs will be outlined, and students will receive a printed list with the order of the lineup. All graduating students should attend.

Participating in Commencement

Students should assemble by 10:30 a.m. on the walkway on the west side of campus near the cross walk between the fountain and Harris Hall. Please wear your cap, gown and hood. Graduate students should hold their hood over their left arm. Precise order is essential in forming the two lines for commencement, which will begin marching forward at 11:00 a.m. The march forward should be at a slow, measured pace, until you reach the seats reserved for graduates. Remain standing until President Lindsay signals for you to be seated.

Candidates for graduation will be presented by name in the following order:

  • Master of Science in Education
  • Master of Science
  • Bachelor of Arts
  • Bachelor of Science
  • Associate of Arts
  • Associate of Science

Students receiving two degrees will proceed with the higher level of degree.

Order Graduation Announcements

Latin Honors regalia are awarded for baccalaureate students only, who achieve the cumulative grade point averages indicated below. In order to be eligible for Latin Honors, students must have earned at least 60 credit hours from Elmira College. Transfer credit will not be factored in for Latin Honors since grades do not transfer.

  • magna cum laude (with high honors): 3.600 to 3.799
  • cum laude (with honors): 3.400 to 3.599

How to Get Your Cap and Gown

Academic regalia will be distributed from the Life After EC event in the Gannett-Tripp Library on March 15. Students who are not able to attend this event can come to the Office of the Registrar, 113 McGraw Hall, beginning on Wednesday, March 20 between 8:30 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. The regalia will be yours to keep.

It's important to pull your regalia out of the package and hang it up well in advance of Commencement. If you see any problems, you can contact the Office of the Registrar at (607) 735-1895 or registrar@psychomotricite-la-seyne.com

Tips for wearing your regalia

Caps are worn well forward on the head, with the point halfway down on the forehead. Tassels on caps are worn on the right side of the cap, centered. Undergraduate students will be directed to move the tassel to the left side later in the ceremony. Graduate students will be hooded in place of the Tassel Ceremony. Generally, people remove and replace caps whenever the President does. This normally takes place during the invocation and final prayer. If you have several clips in place to keep the cap on your head, don’t worry. Just keep it on.

Candlelight Ceremony

Candlelight will be held Saturday, May 18, 2024 near The Puddle. The ceremony begins at 9:00 p.m., so students participating should arrive at 8:30 p.m. Students will form two lines near the east wing of Cowles Hall. If you wish to sit with friends, make sure you are all in the same line.

Nursing Pinning Ceremony

Students participating in this event, which will take place on the afternoon of Saturday, May 18, 2024 in Speidel Gymnasium, will receive additional information from the Nursing Department.
