Dr. Doc Billingsley, Assistant Professor of Anthropology, will moderate a screening of the films developed in the Community Documentation Workshop at 7:00 p.m., June 12, in The Park Church at 208 West Gray Street in Elmira.

The screening is presented in partnership with The Park Church as part of their Meaningful Movie program and is free and open to the public. Light refreshments and snacks will be available. Q&A with the creators will happen following the video screening.

An ARTS Council of the Southern Finger Lakes program, the Community Documentation Workshop was developed by Billingsley and T.C. Owens, Folk Arts Coordinator at the Arts Council. It equips grassroots organizations in the Elmira-Corning region with the skills and perspectives to document and present their cultural traditions in ways that center their voices and perspectives. Additional program partners include Chemung County Library District MakerSpace, Chemung County Historical Society, and GO ART.

Attendees will view four short documentaries made by local community organizations: Ancient Voices Media, Food for the Spirit, the Islamic Association of the Finger Lakes, and United Steelworkers Local 1000.
